The Magic Knight was actually a major portion of the second act of the 1906 operetta Dream City and The Magic Knight. It is a true burlesque of not only Wagner's Lohengrin but all of opera. Neither the spoof nor the operetta which surrounded it lasted very long even though the critics were quite enamored. The work was an opera offering in the opera house of Dreamtown which the town's newly named mayor, Dinglebender, a Long Island truck farmer, is forced to attend because he's the mayor. One can imagine what a Long Island truck farmer might think of "opera."
